NicheGamer hands-on preview — what we know after 30 minutes at SGF

A behind-closed-doors demo at Summer Game Fest 2026 showed off boat-to-island traversal, a beach zombie encounter and a sample of the crafting wheel. tinyBuild said the game is 'still early'.

NicheGamer had a 30-minute hands-on with Last Harbor behind closed doors at Summer Game Fest 2026. The session covered boat-to-island traversal, a beach zombie encounter and a sample of the crafting wheel.

The preview noted that the game is 'still early' but the boat-as-base loop feels solid. The biggest concern raised in the preview was inventory management on a moving platform — the preview build had limited storage slots and no auto-sort.

tinyBuild's producer on the demo said the inventory system will be expanded before launch and that storage crate crafting is being treated as a core progression system, not a side feature.
